Why do people fear Tarot? I think it is mostly fear of the unknown. People don't know what the Tarot really is. They don't know how it works. Hopefully, this stack will help dispell some of that fear.
There is one specific fear I would like to address, and that is the fear of what Tarot will do to YOU. Some people believe that just by using Tarot, it will take over their lives. They believe they will begin slaying goats and wearing all black - uncontrollably. Don't laugh - some people think that studying Tarot will more addicting than drugs!
That is why I want to stress balance. Remember how I said one uses algebra to solve some problems, biology to solve others, and Tarot for still other types? The key to life is balance. Tarot is not going to help you solve every problem you have, nor should it be applied to such. I have found that those who do embrace Tarot with an obsessive grip would embrace anything handy with obsession - video games, reading fantasy, lifting weights, drugs, whatever. I would say that anyone who spends every waking moment thinking about one thing is unbalanced.
I would say the same for those who are currently looking for an obsession - they would be unbalanced by anything handy. Some will use alcohol, some will use music, some will use old movies, some will use Tarot.
If you think there is even the slightest possiblity that you could be "taken over" by Tarot, then don't study it.
Since I have started using Tarot, I have been able to balance my life better than ever before. With the knowledge of life, common situations, growth cycles, and the nature of mankind, I find myself seeing the "big picture" more. Things in my life are clearer. It has become easier to discern what is most important in my life. I used to get lost in work - working 70, 80, even 90 hours a week. I learned through Tarot that my life was not balanced. I was not giving the people I loved in my life enough time, and Tarot showed me that people were very important. Although working hard and contributing as much as you can are also very important, you must create a balance to be healthy and creative.
One of the reasons I am sharing Tarot with as many people as I can - giving the information to make a choice - is because it has been a marvelous source of information and growth for me. If you could benefit even one tenth as much as I have from Tarot, it will be well worth your time. It has helped me to develop the thing I have wanted most in life: a better understanding of people - especially the ones in my life - and a better balance and outlook.
